A Letter from the Founder

Welcome.

My name is Shell, and I’m the founder of LAST OF TRUE TORONTO, LTD.™

Before you explore what we’re building, I think it’s important that you know why it exists.

I was born and raised in Toronto. This city has shaped every part of who I am. My family, my friendships, my work, and some of the most difficult chapters of my life all happened here. Toronto gave me opportunities, challenged me, humbled me, and ultimately taught me what community really means.

Long before I started building this company, I built my career in retail.

From New Era and LIDS to Vans, cannabis retail, independent businesses, and leadership roles, I spent years learning how people connect with the things they choose to wear and carry every day. I came to understand that a fitted hat was never just a hat. It could represent a city, a neighbourhood, a team, a memory, or the way someone wanted to express who they were.

Without realizing it, I was already studying culture.

I was learning how products become symbols, how businesses become gathering places, and how trust is built one conversation at a time.

“Before I was building a brand, I was learning how people wore identity.”

Then life changed.

After losing my home, I found myself with something I hadn’t expected: uncertainty.

I didn’t have a business plan.

I didn’t know what the next chapter looked like.

So I started walking.

Those walks became something much bigger than transportation. They became observation.

I walked Toronto’s streets, rode the 512 St. Clair streetcar, sat in parks, visited neighbourhood businesses, watched communities interact, and paid attention to the details most people pass without noticing.

Somewhere along the way, Toronto stopped being just the city where I lived.

It became the city I was learning to read.

The more I walked, the more patterns I began to notice. The more patterns I noticed, the more questions I asked. Those questions slowly became ideas. Those ideas became a philosophy. That philosophy eventually became LAST OF TRUE TORONTO, LTD.™

People often ask what this company is.

Some think it’s a clothing brand.

Some think it’s a retail concept.

Some think it’s a community project.

The truth is that it’s all of those things — and something larger.

LAST OF TRUE TORONTO, LTD.™ is a Toronto cultural institution in development.

We create products, tell stories, preserve local history, support neighbourhood businesses, and design ideas that strengthen the communities that make this city what it is.

Every collection, every collaboration, every project, and every conversation is guided by a simple belief:

Culture is something we inherit, but it’s also something we’re responsible for leaving better than we found it.

That responsibility shapes everything we do.

It influences the products we design, the partnerships we build, the stories we preserve, and the people we choose to support.

This company is not about chasing trends.

It’s about building something with enough honesty and enough care that it can still matter decades from now.

Be Water

Added: July 18, 2026

One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned came when I stopped trying to force every answer.

Instead, I learned to keep moving.

Be water.

Flow around obstacles.

Stay curious.

Adapt without losing your character.

Trust that if you continue paying attention, the path will reveal itself one step at a time.

Looking back, I don’t think I found this company.

I think the city led me to it.

My hope is that LAST OF TRUE TORONTO, LTD.™ becomes more than a business.

I hope it becomes a place where people feel represented.

Where local businesses are celebrated.

Where artists, builders, neighbours, and dreamers recognize a part of themselves.

Where Toronto’s stories are preserved with the respect they deserve.

Because I don’t believe legacy is measured by how long people remember our names.

I believe it’s measured by whether what we build continues to serve people after we’re gone.

“Every generation inherits a city it did not build. Every generation decides what it will leave behind.”

This is my contribution.

Thank you for being here.

Welcome to LAST OF TRUE TORONTO, LTD.™

For years, I worked inside systems — retail, cannabis, corporate environments — where I tried to give real feedback.
Feedback about operations, culture, accessibility, and the way people were treated.

But my input was ignored.
My labour was undervalued.
My identity — queer, disabled, female — was treated as a liability instead of a strength.

I learned something important:

If the system doesn’t listen, you build a new one.

THE LOT T.O PROGRE$$ $IGNAL R00M $Y$TEM$™ is the system I needed — and the system Toronto deserves.
It listens.
It records.
It respects local intelligence.
It treats community knowledge as institutional knowledge.

This project is not just a brand.
It is not just a building.
It is not just a digital tool.

It is the correction.
It is the reclamation.
It is the future of local governance in Toronto.

And it exists because I refused to stay unheard.
