FOUNDATION

My Favourite Part Was When I QUIT...

Toronto doesn’t hand you a clean beginning. It hands you a moment — usually inconvenient, usually uncomfortable — where you realize the city isn’t interested in your plans. It’s interested in your capacity.

LAST OF TRUE TORONTO LTD. didn’t begin in a studio, a boardroom, or a polished origin story. It began in the places people pretend they’ve never been:

the river the tracks the in‑between spaces the quiet corners where life forces you to sit still long enough to hear yourself think

I used to joke that I’d never end up “in a van down by the river.”

Life responded: Bet.

Not literally — but emotionally, spiritually, institutionally — I was parked right there. And that’s where this company started.

TORONTO’S TRUTH

Every Torontonian has a version of this story.

Maybe it wasn’t a van. Maybe it was a basement apartment with a window facing a brick wall. Maybe it was a couch you overstayed. Maybe it was a job that drained you,

a heartbreak that cracked you open, or a moment where you realized the city wasn’t going to save you — but the people in it might.

Toronto is built on shared struggle.

We don’t bond over perfection.

We bond over the chaos we survived.

If you’ve ever felt one bad week away from living by the river or the tracks, you’re already part of this publication.

THE NIGREDO

The collapse isn’t poetic when you’re inside it. It’s not cinematic. It’s not symbolic. It’s the part of the story people skip when they tell their origin — the part where everything stops working at once and you’re forced to face the version of yourself you’ve been avoiding.

Toronto has a way of putting you into the Nigredo whether you asked for it or not. The dissolution stage. The breaking-open. The moment the city strips you down to the bone and says:

“Show me your capacity.”

For me, the Nigredo wasn’t a single night — it was a season. A slow, grinding erosion of structure, identity, certainty, and ego. The kind of season where you wake up and realize you’re living in the emotional equivalent of a van down by the river — not because you failed, but because life needed you to shed everything that wasn’t real.

The Nigredo is where the founder is forged. Not in success. Not in momentum. In collapse.

It’s the part where you learn:

  • what you can carry

  • what you must drop

  • what you actually believe

  • and what you’re willing to rebuild from nothing

Most people hide their Nigredo. I don’t. Because LAST OF TRUE TORONTO LTD. was born inside it.

The Nigredo is the truth behind the infrastructure. The dark night before the city hands you your first real morning. The moment where Toronto stops being a place you live and becomes a place that shapes you.

If you’ve ever had a season where everything fell apart — where you were forced to sit still long enough to hear your real voice for the first time — then you’ve lived your own Nigredo.

And that means you’re already part of this publication.

INFRASTRUCTURE

LAST OF TRUE TORONTO LTD. is not built from hype. It’s built from infrastructure — the emotional kind, the cultural kind, the community kind.

The kind you build when you’re sitting in your metaphorical van/tent, looking at the river, realizing you either rebuild your life or let the current take you.

I chose to rebuild.

And I chose to build something that helps other people rebuild too.

Toronto doesn’t need more noise. It needs more connection. More nodes. More people willing to say:

“I’ve been down by the river too. Let’s walk back together.”

THE PRACTICE

This isn’t a sob story. It’s a Toronto story — tragic, hilarious, and strangely inspiring all at once.

If you laugh reading this, good.

If you relate, even better.

If you feel seen,

that’s the point.

Most of us didn’t think we’d end up “down by the river.” But most of us did — in our own way. And that’s exactly why LAST OF TRUE TORONTO LTD. exists.

To turn those moments into infrastructure. To turn survival into culture. To turn Toronto’s collective struggle into something that finally feels like home.

CLOSING RECORD

This is our introduction to the world.

Raw. Human. Toronto‑coded.

Founder‑led.

Institutionally grounded.

If you’ve ever been down by the river — or the tracks

you’re already one of U$ pal.

P.S. — THE LOT T.O $E$$ION$

Added: July 28, 2026

There’s a famous line — delivered by one of the greatest comedic minds of our generation, Mr. Dave Chappelle — that goes:

“F*** yo couch.

We heard it. We felt it. We lived a version of it.

But somewhere between the river and the rebuild, between the collapse and the infrastructure, between the chaos and the institution —

we made a different choice.

So, In the words of Dave Chappelle - Repectfully, Fuck Yo Couch ..

                      I -- Well, We chose a MILKCRATE.

Not the couch. Not the comfort. Not the easy seat someone else offered.

The milkcrate — four walls of black plastic, a makeshift throne, a Toronto symbol of resourcefulness, resilience, and refusal to quit — became the foundation.

THE LOT T.O™ Milkcrate isn’t just a product.

Its a foundation.

It’s a philosophy.

It’s what you sit on when the couch isn’t yours.
It’s what you build on when the floor is all you have.
It’s what you carry when you’re moving toward something real.

So with the deepest respect to Mr. Chappelle — whose honesty, courage, and refusal to perform comfort for anyone has always been an inspiration —

we say this with love:

F*** yo couch.
We chose a milkcrate.
And we built an institution on it.

— SHELL - THE LOT T.O™
